I haven’t used it a lot yet, but with what I’ve done I’m very pleased! Considering what I’m feeding it, it cuts very clean. I have it on a 25hp tractor. I would recommend raising the cutting height from the stock setting if using it for heavy grass.

I’ve been using the MFS50 around my horse paddocks—great for tight access and light maintenance. It runs quieter than expected and doesn’t spook the animals. Blade rotor holds speed even in patchy areas, and there’s no uneven cutting so far. Assembly took under an hour solo. Farmry’s packaging was surprisingly well-done—crate arrived intact with no damage. Would be nice if the PTO shaft had quick-release pins, but that’s my only suggestion.

Bought the MFS50 for clearing orchard lanes between trees—its compact size is ideal for tight turns. The end-to-end welds on the deck look solid, and the steel feels thicker than what I’ve seen on similar-sized units. Height adjustment was simple, just needed a pin tweak. Used it on a 52HP Kubota, no lag, no clog. Rear roller leaves a clean finish even in damp grass. Minor thing: no lift handle on the rear flap, but not a dealbreaker. Overall, great piece of equipment—thanks Farmry for a solid experience.

Bought a mower a few weeks back. Had a little issue with shipping but the customer support team got it worked out no big deal. Mower seems to be doing a good job very impressed

Finally, a mower that does it right! After years of using a brush hog, I was blown away by how perfect my field looked after just one pass with the MFS50. Total game changer

Faqs

How big can a flail mower cut?

A flail mower like the MFS50 is perfect for managing light brush, grass, and even heavy weeds. While it's not a tree shredder, it’s built to handle tough vegetation with ease. For larger areas, it delivers consistent cut quality and effective mulch, especially when you're working along fence lines or in tight spaces using offset and side shift functions.

What size flail mower for a 30 HP tractor?

If your tractor is 30 HP, you'll want a lighter-duty mower than the MFS50, which is optimized for 20 HP and up. Look for a ditch bank flail mower or compact model specifically designed for low horsepower but still tough enough for grass and light brush on uneven ground.

What happens if you hit a rock with a flail mower?

If you hit a rock, the pto drive and drive belts work together to help absorb the impact and protect the internal parts. Unlike rigid blades, flail hammers tend to bounce off obstacles, reducing damage. Still, always stand clear and inspect the area before mowing to avoid serious impacts.

How much horsepower does it take to run a flail mower?

It depends on the mower size and terrain. For the MFS50, you'll need between 25–85 HP, with 50 HP being the sweet spot for optimal performance. A solid pto shaft setup ensures power gets transferred efficiently from your tractor to the mower.

How fast can you mow with a flail mower?

Most operators mow between 3–6 mph, depending on terrain and vegetation. For maximum effectiveness, especially on uneven ground, slow down in thicker areas and speed up on flat sections. The center mount and hydraulic side shift help you stay efficient and aligned while adjusting to field conditions.

What size flail mower do I need?

It depends on your tractor horsepower and the job. For a 50 HP or higher tractor, the Farmry MFS50 with a 50" cutting width is ideal. It offers great coverage for larger areas and comes with a side shift feature to reach around trees or fence lines, making it a great all-around performer made with durable materials and built for quality results.
